Travel in Valmiera municipality by bicycle
Valmiera municipality has many picturesque places and tourist attractions every nature and culture lover must see. Purchase a train ticket for yourself and your bicycle to Valmiera and discover the beautiful municipality, which is rich of not only landscapes of rivers, forests and the Lake Burtnieks, but also has narrow gauge railway lines offering magnificent views.
To make travelling more exciting and exploratory,a booklet of bicycle routes of Valmiera municipality has been created. It comprises 12 bicycle routes of the municipality, which offer unique experience and allow to explore the tourism offer, natural objects, tourism farms, and also contains practical information which will be useful during a bicycle trip.
The booklet includes routes for beginners and experienced cyclists, providing technical information about each route, including the road surface, route distance, level of difficulty and marking in nature.

The information is compiled to ensure safe and pleasant trip in Valmiera municipality. The listed routes lead along picturesque nature sites, historical populated places and interesting tourism farms. Thanks to these routes, everyone now has an opportunity to explore the cultural heritage and nature diversity of Valmiera municipality.
The booklet of bicycle routes includes four thematic routes in Valmiera, the beloved route of the festival “Kino Pedālis” – Puspedālis – which is rich of scenic places along the Gauja River and the Abuls River. The magnificence of forest and the route to the third oldest town in Latvia is offered by the route Valmiera–Cēsis. Landscapes of old narrow gauge railway line can be viewed along the Green Railway Route Smiltene–Valmiera–Ainaži. Pearls of Rūjiena town can be seen by choosing the bicycle route No.149. Whereas the route No.112 “Around the Lake Burtnieks” will allow you to view the extensive scenes of the Lake Burtnieks. Three of the routes included in the booklet even lead to the neighbouring Estonia: bicycle route No.148 Mazsalaca–Virķēni–Mõisaküla, No.17 Ainaži–Aloja–Matīši–Burtnieki–Rūjiena–Karksi Nuija (EE) and the international Tour de EstLat stage Valmiera–Valka.
