To Gulbene and Madona municipalities on a train

Accepting the challenge of changing your habits, it is worth trying travelling on a train, which will allow you to discover and get to know new and interesting destinations in Latvia. In the tourism season 2024, each passionate traveller is invited to enjoy special holiday tours in Gulbene and Madona municipalities, travelling to the destination on a train.

Just embark on a train and, enjoying the scenery behind the window, travel to the north-eastern part of Vidzeme – Gulbene, Madona and Cesvaine, where you will be welcomed by passionate tourism entrepreneurs and owners of tourist attractions, allowing to enjoy great recreation and exploring the diverse tourism offer!

On 23 March, 20 April, 18 May, 8 June, 20 July, 17 August, 21 September, 19 October and 2 November, train passengers are invited to enjoy the special offer in Gulbene municipality.

The tour participants will have a chance to visit the educational and interactive centre “Dzelzceļš un Tvaiks”, go on a ride with the only regularly running narrow gauge train in the Baltics – Gulbene-Alūksne bānītis – to Stāmeriena station, where after a delicious lunch at the cafe of the recreation complex “Sonāte” tour participants will enjoy great atmosphere at the pearl of romance – Stāmeriena Palace. After visiting the palace, a visit to the cosy cheese factory “Pakalnieši” is planned, tasting and also having a chance to buy the delicious salty and sweet sorts of cheese produced by the company. Whereas on 27 April, 11 May, 15 June, 13 July, 24 August, 14 September and 5 October, train passengers are welcome to go on a tour to Madona and Cesvaine.

After the tour in Madona with the local guide, the workshop of the ceramicist Jānis Seiksts will be visited and Madona Museum will be attended. In Cesvaine, the tour participants will have a chance to go on a guided tour of Cesvaine Manor House and visit Cesvaine Palace, attend the gallery of embroidered paintings by Vineta Meistere, and visit “Smēdes Nams”. Tours in both municipalities are very popular among train passengers; therefore, everyone who is interested is kindly asked to apply for tours timely.
